Magery is one of the two active skills responsible for spell casting, along with Prayer. To start casting a spell, use the Magery skill or the command ]wizardgump, then select a spell you've memorized.
Usage
Arcane Spells are memorized prior to use. Only a certain number of spells may be held in memory at a time (based on the level of Mage the adventurer has), but those memorized may be cast as many times as the magic user wishes. New spells can be memorized by locating an available Arcane Tome and meditating over its contents.
Arcane Spells consume the user's Mana. While novice mages use the bare minimum of mana to power a spell, more experienced mages can Channel Mana to strengthen a spell further.
Formula
While casting, the mage makes a skill check every time they add mana into their spell:
Chance to channel more = Current Channeled Mana / (1 + (Magery Skill / 150))
This occurs roughly once every quarter-second, modified by Nutrition and other bonuses.
Differences from Ultima Online
Magery originally took a standard amount of time to cast and couldn't accept more mana to intensify their effects.
