The Saints represented the virtues in life. They now act pillars of guidance and beacons that bestow their blessings to help their followers gain in the virtue that they represent. There are eight Virtues in the world.
"We do not condemn those who have not yet reached perfection, let it not be said that these worthy few who are recognized act as a condemnation of your acts, no. Let it only be known that these few show us the path, they prove it can be walked, even if only in some few aspects, and perhaps someday, everyone can walk it together." - Brother Tommin Vetarii, Cleric of the Saints.
The Virtues are:
- Valor
- Humility
- Honesty
- Sacrifice
- Justice
- Compassion
- Honor
- Spirituality
In The Saints Pantheon, there are many Saints that represent each virtue. Every culture of the world has its own Saints as well.
Within each person it is said, is the potential for great virtue, often beset by inequity and woe which can prevent that greatness from being expressed. But never the less, the potential is there in us all and the Saints prove it to be so.
Adherents of The Saints venerate the virtues they see as inherent in everyone. They believe that everyone contains these Virtues, even if the person believes that they do not.
Each of these virtues has been embodied by virtuous individuals recognized posthumously for their achievements by the church. These group are known collectively as "The Saints" and are said to act both as a beacon to aspire to and a guardian over the living yet to reach them. All adherents of the Saints strive to live virtuous enough lives that they themselves might be remembered in this way. Due to the universality of their message and the recognition of many individuals of other religions, the saints are generally accepted to be lesser practitioners of what ever religion happens to be checking.
Dedication: Counts as any other pantheon when checked.
A Few Saints Worth Mentioning:
Saint Basilica was well known in Alcarin, as a woman of complete Compassion. She helped the poor, treated the sick and taught children. Her Compassion was her demise, as she contracted a disease that had killed many, because she refused to allow those who were sick and dying to suffer if she was able to help them.
Saint Aranhil judged. He brought unbiased Justice to those who performed misdeeds. Those who confessed the truth of their crimes and accepted their punishment, Aranhil gave fair punishment to fit the crime that they had performed. Those, however, who were found guilty through trial who did not confess, often found themselves to have a much harsher punishment.
Saint Nissa was the embodiment of Spirituality. She sought Truth, love and Courage from within herself and everything around her. She taught others to seek these things as well, and is known for her teaching. Saint Ezra in life was a Councilman. He was one of the few that ever contained absolute Honesty. He was a man who never told a lie, and it was his Honesty that lead to his death. Saint Ezra was killed by an Orc whom he refused to lie to a Guardsman for, when the Orc had stolen from the city.
Saint Ingvá was a Warrior known for her Valor. She accepted the risks, and rose to meet them without hesitation, truly courageous to her core.
What they think of Other Pantheons:
Ancients - "It must take great courage to call upon creatures they know despise them."
Twins - "Good and Evil needn't co-exist, the righteous can follow a path without shadow."
Lords - "If only their creativity was put to more constructive aims."
Scales - "They certainly are... dedicated, though their laws seem rather arbitrary."
Sun - "I must say I admire their spirit of cooperation."
Watcher - "Respect for the truth is a very fine thing indeed, though perhaps a bit single minded."
